While I have an agency background, I also am currently running a small nonprofit myself. So I know inside and out the challenges that nonprofits face every day.
During my 10+ years working in the agency world, I had the blessing and privilege of helping multi-million dollar nonprofits with their fundraising. My specialty is Client Services and donor communication strategy.
For years, I watched my dad run a small nonprofit. I saw the challenges he faced while he tried to bring in funding while trying to live out his passion.
While I loved the challenge of helping big nonprofits, my heart was still with my dad and others like him that were running smaller nonprofits.
They didn’t have the funding to work with an agency, and I was desperate to find a way where they could.
So in 2015, I left the agency world. I started working with my dad, and Jackie and I formed The Nonprofit Consulting Shop...and the rest is history.
I began my career (many moons ago) working in an advertising agency as a Media buyer. My account list was General Motors, Shell Oil, Pennzoil, and numerous Retail accounts.
I moved to Seattle and began working at an agency that worked with nonprofits. Throughout my time in the agencies, I continued my media buying skills, and was promoted to New Donor Acquisition Strategist, Media Director, and Vice President.
My specialty became turning account performance around. I was usually put on the accounts that the agency was at risk of losing. It was my job to dissect the issues, change processes within the agency to better serve the clients, and of course improve their results.
The nonprofit clients that I have had the privilege to serve over the years include: at least 20 local Rescue Missions, National MS Society, Lance Armstrong Foundation, Petsmart Charities, Susan G Komen, City of Hope, CARE, Feed the Children, Feeding America, Mercy Corps, Salvation Army, and over 25 other Faith-Based Organizations.
The Nonprofit Consulting Shop was created on a napkin at a restaurant.
That day, as we talked at lunch, it became clear that we both saw a huge problem.
Every day, we talked to people who ran nonprofits but so many lacked the fundraising expertise, time and resources to be able to set up long-term successful donor communications like the super large nonprofits were able to do.
None of these people or organizations could afford to hire the help they needed to raise support. They also were struggling to keep donations coming in and their donors engaged.
Worst of all, the energy they were spending on fundraising was taking away from other areas of development.
The more we talked, the more we realized that this needed to change. By the time we grabbed the napkin – and asked the waitress for a pen – we were determined to find a way.....
